Carrots In A Saucepan 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a bunch of carrots in a stainless steel saucepan. This is the first time that I have used carrots as the main subject of a painting. I really liked the effect of the bright orange of the carrots contrasted with the blues and grays reflected in the pot. Keeping that in mind I felt that the bright color of the carrots and the reflections of the pot were enough to complete the composition, so I stayed with a bluish gray background and the whitish counter top with no other parts to the composition other than the green stalks flowing down and across the painting. I'm very happy with the outcome. I hope that you like them too.
I'm Steve Boggs, I am an artist from Tennessee. I have been painting for over 30 years, working predominately in oils and painting the things that I see around me everyday. Hopefully you will enjoy viewing my work. And of course please feel free to add comments, or select the link on any painting if you are interested in bidding on or buying. Daily Painting - Still Life- Apple
Apple 6 in. x 6 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a single apple. Typically when I do a still life subject like an apple I paint it chiaroscuro where the subject emerges from a dark area of the canvas or panel and the light originates typically from the right but at a lower angle. Today I wanted to paint this apple with a light background and with the lighting originating from the right, but higher up. This apple was full of yellow, gold, sienna, and orange colors. I really like the effect of those colors against the lighter blue-grayish background and table colors. I hope that you enjoy the painting.

Daily Painting - Still Life- Geraniums
Geraniums 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a terracotta pot of Geraniums. Normally when I do a still life it is in the studio, this was painted plein air The flowers were grown by my sister in law and I painted them from their back yard. It was very sunny and very hot in middle Tennessee over the weekend but I was able to put my easel in the shade when I was painting and listened to the Indy 500 on the radio. Made for a fun day of painting. I hope that you enjoy this one.

Daily Painting - Still Life- Thistle
Thistle 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a thistle in a clear glass decanter. Every week I try to do one painting that is a stretch from the norm. Today was the day for this week. As far as plants and flowers go the thistle doesn't get a whole lot of respect, get one in your yard and out comes the Round-up or shovel. But honestly if you really look at them they are interesting plants, and bees absolutely love them. This one came from a patch of thistles in a field down the road. I brought it home and wasn't sure how I was going to paint it, and I ended up putting it in this cognac decanter. I think that the contrast of this rough, thorny flower in the thin, fragile decanter is really neat. By the time I finished I really loved the painting. Kind of reminds me of Braveheart if you remember the thistle scenes. I hope that you enjoy it.

Daily Painting - Landscape - Grove Road
Grove Road, 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - SOLD
The subject is a narrow country road. This is a road off of a highway that leads to an old house. The road is tree lined and today was another bright sunny day in middle Tennessee, and I wanted to take advantage of the sunlight that was shining between the trees. It created really interesting shadows on across the small road. As I finished I ended the day very happy with the painting. I hope that you like it too.

Daily Painting - Landscape - Cloud Study 6
Cloud Study 6, 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a bank of cumulus clouds. Whenever we have an interesting weather front come through middle Tennessee I try to stop what I'm doing and catch it. Clouds are a lifelong study for artists. They are very challenging and very interesting to paint. These were to the Northeast with the light primarily from the west. The white building in the painting is a small pump house on a farm a few miles from my house.

Daily Painting - Still Life- Radishes
Radishes 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - SOLD
The subject is a bunch of four radishes. I was really taken by the reds, and the strange stems that curl from the bottoms. This is the first time that I have painted them and it made for an interesting day. The colors remind me of Christmas, but as I was painting I kept thinking that this would make an interesting painting for someone's kitchen or dining room. Fun painting to do. I hope that you enjoy them too.

Daily Painting - Still Life- Peppers In A Box
Peppers In A Box 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - SOLD
The subject is three peppers. A jalapeno, a habanero, and a red chili. The wooden box is an old eye-glasses case that my grandfather had, probably from the 1930's. Painting peppers is always interesting because of the intense colors. Today I wanted to do something different than the typical 'pepper on a table painting'. So I put them in their own little compartment in the box, the divider is a piece of cardboard cut to fit which I think gives it a neat studio painting feel. To me this painting has a significant color intensity and warmth. I hope that you enjoy it

Daily Painting - Still Life- Plum, Plum, Apricot
Plum, Plum, Apricot 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - SOLD
The subject is two plums and an apricot. I've painted plums once or twice over the years and I really like the deep reds and violets that you get to use. But the apricot today was an amazing subject. This is the first time that I have included one in a painting and it was so much fun to work with. With the lighting on it there was an endless array soft, semi-translucent colors. That little apricot made my Saturday. I hope that you enjoy them.

Daily Painting - Landscape - Farm
Farm 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a farm with multiple barns and buildings. This farm is incredible. It has a large white stone house with a red roof, and numerous barns and buildings on a huge expanse of green fields and pastures. Today it was the sunlight that got me on this one. It was a very bright sunny day today and I tried to incorporate as much of it into the painting that I could. I hope that you enjoy it.

Daily Painting - Still Life- Doughnuts
Doughnuts 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is three Krispy Kreme doughnuts. This is a bit different than my typical still life subjects, but honestly what's better than doughnuts? This painting borders on hyper realism and it made for an interesting day of painting. When I started it this morning there were a few things that made me wonder how I would paint them but the painting came together easier than I expected, especially given the extra detail. I really like the result. Hope you like them too.

Daily Painting - Landscape - Hay Bales
Hay Bales 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is rolled hay bales in a farm field. This is a farm a couple of miles from my house. It is off of a really pretty country road that is bordered by a creek on one side and farms, fields, and hills on the other. . This is the first cut of the season and I thought that I would paint them today. I painted this one a bit more brushy and impressionistic than some of my landscapes because I didn't want the bales to be too set and detailed. Hope that you enjoy them.

Daily Painting - Still Life - A Pear
A Pear 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is a single pear. This one caught my eye because of the really interesting variance in color. The pear, and the painting, have some reds, but a fair amount of burnt oranges, golds, gray green's, etc. Fun to paint. I hope that you enjoy it.

Daily Painting - Still Life - Three Oranges
Three Oranges 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel -SOLD
The subject is three navel oranges on a stone tile. Before today it had probably been four or five years since I painted oranges. So today I thought I would have a go at them again. What I was after with this painting was the yellowish orange in the light contrasted against the darker greenish colors in the shadows. The left side orange has a really neat half-tone shadow cast by the center orange which is really just one brush stroke. I hope that you like them as well as I do.

Daily Painting - Still Life - Yellow Wildflowers
Yellow Wildflowers 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - SOLD
The subject is yellow wildflowers in a glass jar. I picked these flowers by the side of a country road a few miles from my home. This painting is a companion painting to a wild daisy painting that I did earlier in the week. The yellows of these little flowers is very intense against the dark background that I put behind them when painting. Hope you enjoy them.

Daily Painting - Still Life - Mason Jar Daisies
Mason Jar Daisies 8 in. x 10 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.
The subject is wild daisies in a Ball Mason Jar. The idea for this painting came to me May 4. I was out scouting around the countryside a few miles from my house looking for something interesting to paint over the weekend. I stopped the truck and got out to look at a field and a tree line and eventually realized that I was standing in a patch of these things by the side of the road. I cut a bunch and brought them home and was going to put them in a jar with water just to keep them fresh until I decided if I wanted to paint them later. But when I did they really blew me away. I never really even arranged them, they looked so good to me just stuck in the jar. While I was painting I was really interested in the light and shadows on the flowers and the way that the stems looked in the water. This was a really fun painting to do. I hope that you like it.
